Michelle Dashev

New Orleans is her place. Michelle is inspired by the people, culture, landscape, music ... The contrasting forces of persistent deterioration and vibrant renewal.

Using scale, bold colors and texture, her portraits capture the humanity and strength of the people in the city.

Her more free-form, abstract pieces are personal meditations on emotion and human nature in conflict with the non-organic quality of the high-tech world of the 21st century. She infuses classical mediums with a contemporary perspective- linking the past to the present; never forgetting the animal that runs the machine.

Michelle’s paintings have been shown around New Orleans at The New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts Gallery (“The Fine Art of the Mardi Gras Indians,” January 2020), The Ogden Museum (Louisiana Contemporary 2017) and Gallery 600 Julia ("Here Comes the Big Chief!" in February 2018 and “Mardi Gras” in February 2019). She also participated in the 2019 “Momento Mori” exhibition at the Second Story Gallery in The Healing Arts Center on St. Claude Avenue.

Michelle has a B.F.A. in oil painting from The University of Massachusetts.
